GENERAL FAQ:

Is Crew a Sport?
YES! Haven't you seen it during the Summer Olympics? If not, we encourage you to do so! Crew is a competitive sport that requires the utmost dedication and training. We extend a personal invitation to all LBHS athletes who may think crew is easy! Our athletes practice 5-6 days per week and spend several hours rowing - on both water and rowing machines ("ergs"). They also run, weight train and perform various strength and agility exercises. Although the training is rigorous, our athletes wouldn't trade it for the world.

The Benefits of Crew
Rowing is a sport that takes dedication, stamina and commitment. Because crew athletes spend a lot of time training together they often develop life-long friendships. Rowing is one of the very few co-ed sports where men and women train and compete together. Rowing is the ultimate team sport - everyone MUST work together in order to succeed. LBRA enforces a strict code of discipline to ensure a safe and positive atmosphere for our student athletes.

How will I get my homework done with so many practices?
While the LBRA teams generally practice 4-5 days per week - practices usually start by 3:30 or 4:00pm and are over by 7:00pm. There is generally time before practice and time after practice to work on homework. Participating in any extra curricular activity requires better than average time management skills. In order to participate on the LBRA team it is necessary to maintain at least at 2.0 unweighted GPA. The coaches typically give at least one day off in the middle of the week.

What is Crew Camp?
Crew camp is held during Seminole County Public Schools Spring Break. The camp is designed to facilitate strength training in preparation for State Championships and to bring everyone together and promote team building. The kids work hard and they get a chance to hang out with their friends. It is similar to the movie "Remember the Titans" - it is a lot of fun for the athletes and the chaperones!

How can I get involved?
LBRA depends on parent volunteers to help in every aspect of the club. Parents are needed to help chaperone our trips, help with various committees, and participate in the events and Regattas. The Club's growth is dependent on the continued support from our parents. If you have special skills or interests such as cooking/grilling, web site development, etc. - please do not hesitate to volunteer. This is our last opportunity to be so deeply involved in our children's lives before they go off to college or to start their own lives. Build the memories now to last a lifetime!

How do I join LBRA?

Can I join anytime during the year? What if I am a sophomore or older?
You can join LBRA anytime during the year - but the sooner the better. In no time the coaches and teammates wil help you to build the necessary skills, strength and stamina to compete. It does not matter what year you are in schho, come out and join us!
