LBRA is pleased to announce the GRAND OPENING OF OUR NEW BOATHOUSE AND OUR ANNUAL ALUMNI ROW on Saturday, December 20, 2008. All alumni, past coaches, current coaches, current members of LBRA, Lake Brantley High School staff, and all friends are invited. The day will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until 2:00 PM. Please join us for a tour of the boathouse, food, reuniting with old friends, and for the first row for the alumni out of our new location. Our address is 4217 N OBT on Lake Fairview. Please pass the information along to all your friends. We want as many people to attend that can. Please RSVP by December 16, 2008 to Kate Landis at wh8t1minit@aol.com or Linda Larson at llindajlarson@aol.com.
The Fall race season has begun and we need your help! We need setup folks, grill masters and anyone else willing to help feed our hungry rowers at the upcoming in-state regattas. This is NOT an all-day commitment! Our plan is to split up the work in smaller shifts so that everyone will get the chance to enjoy seeing their children row! Please contact Carol Richardson to sign up for an available time slot. Visit the Hospitality Page to view the volunteer sign-up sheet and submit your regatta menu requests!
Visit our E-mail link to find recent e-mails regarding
upcoming events and information that inquiring minds want to know! Need Carpooling? Crew requires a significant amount of
driving to practices and regattas, and since gas prices are at record highs,
we highly recommend that you carpool with other crew members or their
parents. You can ask around at the general meetings, or you can post a
Carpooling inquiry to our secure LBRA message board
(username and password are lbra08). Welcome Aboard! Please join us in extending a warm welcome to our NEW head coaches, Christina Blair and Travis Raker! Coach Christina, an assistant under Coach Mary Collins, is the LBRA Head Coach and Head Women's Varsity Coach for the upcoming season! Coach Mary headed to California to finish her doctoral work, and although we are sad to see her go, we are very excited to have Coach Christina as our new coach! Coach Travis comes back to join us as the Head Men's Varsity Coach this year! Travis began rowing at Lake Brantley High School under the “Legendary” Bram Fowler in the Fall of 1995. He rowed in an undefeated novice 8 that captured the 1996 Men’s Novice 8 state title. He was part of numerous championship teams, and later returned to coach Brantley to several more championships from 2001-2003. Check out his bio! Both coaches bring tremendous dedication, experience and enthusiasm! We are incredibly stoked to have them and our returning Novice coaches, Tab Campbell and Mike Roblin on our TEAM! On Three…One…Two…Three…GO BRANTLEY!!! What is Crew? Crew is the sport of rowing a lightweight boat (shell)
as fast as it will go! There are two basic forms of rowing - sweep rowing
and sculling. Most high school and college rowing is done in sweep boats.
In sweep rowing, each athlete handles a single oar. Sweep boats are
designed for two, four or eight rowers and are generally steered by a
coxswain (pronounced "cox'n"). An eight, the largest sweep boat, is over
60 feet long, weighs only 200 pounds, and can handle eight men with a
combined weight of over 1700 pounds!!
Visit our FAQ page to learn
more! Is Crew a Sport? YES! Didn't you see it during the Summer Olympics? If not then shame on you! Crew is a sport that requires the utmost dedication and training. We extend a personal invitation to all LBHS football, basketball and baseball players who think crew is “easy”! Our athletes practice 4-5 days per week and spend several hours rowing - on both water and rowing machines ("ergs"). They also run, weight train, and perform various strength and agility exercises. Although the training is rigorous, our athletes wouldn't trade it for the world! Since they spend significant time training together, our rowers end up developing life long friendships. Rowing is the one of the very few co-ed sports where men and women train and compete together. It is a total team sport! Who Are We? LAKE BRANTLEY ROWING ASSOCIATION (or LBRA) provides an opportunity for young men and women to participate in the great sport of rowing. We are one of Florida's premier high school rowing programs and regularly produce champion boat crews at both the state and national levels. Learn more about us!
Our club is
affiliated with Lake
Brantley High School , located at 991
Sand Lake Rd, Altamonte Springs, FL. We currently
practice out of the VFW Post at 4444
Edgewater Drive, Orlando, FL on beautiful Lake Fairview, but will
soon be moving to our own boathouse across the lake! Stay
tuned!! How Do I Join the Crew Team? You can contact us via email at membership@lakebrantleycrew.org or check out our meeting schedule and attend any of the general meetings to get full details on joining LBRA!
